This privacy notice explains how Switch Health Insurance ("we", "us") collects, uses and shares personal data when you visit switchhealthinsurer.co.uk or submit our comparison form. We are committed to handling your data in line with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
Who we are
Switch Health Insurance is an online resource focused exclusively on helping UK consumers compare and switch private medical insurance. We are an introducer that connects users with FCA-regulated partners. We do not provide regulated financial advice ourselves.
What data we collect
We collect only what is needed to prepare your comparison and operate this website:
- Information you submit through the comparison form: name, email address, optional phone number, age band, UK postcode, cover type and (optionally) your current insurer.
- Calculator inputs: if you choose to use our savings calculator, the figures you enter and, if you submit the follow-up email-capture form, your name, postcode and email address.
- Technical data: IP address, browser type, device type, and pages visited, collected via standard server logs and our cookie policy.
We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18, and we do not collect special-category health data through the comparison form. Detailed medical information, if needed, is collected directly by our recommended partners during their underwriting process.
Why we use your data and our legal basis
- To prepare your comparison and pass it to our partners — legal basis: contract. You ask us to share your details with our recommended FCA-regulated partners so they can build your comparison.
- To improve the website and our content — legal basis: legitimate interests. Aggregated analytics on how visitors use the site.
- To meet legal obligations — legal basis: legal obligation. For example, complying with HMRC or law-enforcement requests.
Who we share your data with
We share the details you submit with our recommended FCA-regulated partners so they can prepare your comparison and (if you choose to proceed) arrange a new policy with you. The current list of partners is available on request.
We may also share data with: hosting and email-delivery providers acting on our instructions; analytics providers (in anonymised form where possible); and regulators or law-enforcement where required by law.
We do not sell your data to third parties, and we do not use your data for unrelated marketing without your separate consent.
How long we keep your data
We keep comparison-form submissions for up to 24 months from the date of submission to support our partners in following up on your enquiry. Calculator submissions are kept for up to 12 months. Server-log technical data is kept for up to 12 months. Where you proceed to take out a policy, your data will also be retained by the relevant insurer and our partners under their own retention policies.
International transfers
Your data is primarily processed in the UK and EEA. Where a provider operates from outside these areas, we rely on UK GDPR-approved safeguards (such as the International Data Transfer Agreement or appropriate Standard Contractual Clauses).
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to: access your data; have inaccurate data corrected; request erasure of your data in certain circumstances; object to or restrict processing; and request data portability. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
